TPU Filament

Flexible thermoplastic polyurethane for parts that must bend, seal, grip and survive repeated deformation. Grades and parameters are confirmed per project with their approved spec sheets — not listed as stable catalogue supply.

Why so sparse on purpose: flexible filament performance depends heavily on the exact compound, printer setup and part geometry. Rather than copy generic numbers, we publish what is confirmed and let your validation fill in the rest.

TPU Grades (per project)

Firm-flexible grades (often discussed around Shore A 90–95) sit at the firmer end of flexible 3D printing — flexible enough for living hinges, seals and grips, stiff enough to print with fewer feeding compromises than softer grades. Exact hardness is confirmed per project.

  • Confirmed part of the FilaSource catalogue, available for samples and bulk quoting
  • Same 1.75 mm ±0.02 mm shared spec, 1 kg spools, 10 spools per export carton
  • Exact temperature, speed and retraction windows published with the approved TDS

Understanding Hardness: the Shore A Scale

TPU grades are named after their Shore hardness — a durometer measurement of how deeply a standardized indenter presses into the material. Higher numbers mean firmer compounds.

Shore A bandFeelTypical partsPrinting consideration
≈ 85A and softerVery soft, elasticGaskets, soft grips, wearablesSlowest feeding; direct drive strongly preferred
90A–95AFirm-flexibleLiving hinges, tires, bumpers, couplingsBalanced flexibility and printability
≈ 98A and upNear-rigid flexibleCaster wheels, impact mountsCloser to rigid-filament handling

Grade names state the scale and the number — a “95A” rating (when offered) is measured on the Shore A scale with a specific durometer method and is confirmed for each grade in its TDS. Rigid filaments use Shore D instead, so the two scales are never compared directly.

Printer & Feeding Validation — Do This First

Flexible filament is where printer differences matter most. Before any volume order, validate on the machines that will run production.

Where your spools come from

Pellet drying, extrusion, vacuum sealing and packing under one quality system, with written inspection records for every batch — the same lines that produce your TPU samples.

Feeding path

Extruder type

Direct-drive and constrained filament paths handle TPU best; long Bowden tubes need slower feed and looser tension. Note your setup in the validation form.

Motion

Speed & acceleration

Flexible grades usually print at reduced speeds. We agree target profiles during validation rather than quote generic limits.

Environment

Drying & storage

TPU is hygroscopic. Keep spools dry before and during printing — our export packing vacuum-seals every spool with desiccant.

Part design

Geometry & walls

Thin walls, overhangs and tight bends behave differently in flexible materials. Test the actual part, not just a benchmark cube.

Pass criteria

Define before testing

Bend cycles, stretch recovery, seal tightness — agree measurable acceptance criteria, then judge the sample against them.
